Keith Fahrforth – Hockey Director, Varsity Head Coach

Keith Fahrforth has played the game of hockey from the youth level through the collegiate level. He grew up in Wheaton and Winfield attending Wheaton North High School. He played his youth hockey for the Glen Ellyn Flames from mites through midgets including several Blackhawk Cup and Central States Championships. While in high school, Keith played for Wheaton West Hockey Club where he had a very successful career including a selection to the 2005 Illinois High School All State Team. Upon graduating high school, Keith attended St. Mary’s University of Minnesota to pursue playing collegiate hockey and golf. He graduated in 2009 with a BA in Biology and a minor in Mathematics. In 2010, Keith earned his masters degree in secondary education and returned to Illinois to begin his teaching and coaching career. Keith has taught at West Chicago Community High School and Wheaton-Warrenville South High School. Coach Keith has been coaching at Wheaton West Since 2009.

Michael Scheffler – Varsity Assistant Coach

Michael Scheffler is a Wheaton North alum who grew up playing youth hockey in Illinois. While in high school he skated for Wheaton West while also playing for the Cyclones and Sabres. After graduation he attended University of Wisconsin Platteville where he continued his hockey career. Michael transferred to Northern Illinois University where he graduated with a major in International Politics and a minor in Southeast Asian studies. While at NIU he was honored with the opportunity to study political anthropology in Thailand. After graduation Michael interned at a U.S. Senators office before working on a State Representatives reelection campaign. He began coaching with the Chicago Bruins bantam gold team in 2012 where he still is coaching. Coach Scheff has been coaching at Wheaton West in 2013.

Matt Tokarz – JV Head Coach

Matt Tokarz played his youth hockey for the Vikings and Huskies AA. He played his high school hockey for Lincoln Way East. After graduating from DePaul University with a degree in Management, Coach Tokarz started coaching high school hockey for his Alma mater, Lincoln Way East. In 2011, Matt accepted a position with the Chicago Bruins as the Assistant Coach for the Peewee Major Central States team that won state and finished in fourth at Nationals. Matt has also head coached and assisted with many different Bruins NIHL and CSDHL teams, including Head Coach of the Peewee Major Central States team for the past two seasons. 2017 will be Coach Tokarz’s first season with Wheaton West.

Allen Davis – JV Assistant Coach

Allen Davis played his youth hockey for the Carol Stream Squires. As a student of Wheaton North High School, he played all 4 years of his midget hockey for Wheaton West as a Captain. Allen played collegiate hockey at Aurora University and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History. Upon graduating college, he started his coaching career at the Chicago Bruins teaming up with his former High School Coach, Joe Stubits. 2015 will be Allen’s first year as a coach with Wheaton West Hockey.

Mike Dwyer – Goalie Coach

Mike Dwyer grew up playing goalie with the Downers Grove Huskies, later to the Naperville Sabres, and eventually playing with Hinsdale Central High School. Mike was the first Hinsdale Central hockey player to achieve the AHAI All-State Team Selection award, which was not repeated by another Hinsdale Central player until 13 years later. Mike also led Hinsdale Central to 3 Cougar Cup championships during his tenure. After graduation, Mike played one season with Iowa State before taking a break to finish with his studies. He graduated with a major in Management Information Systems from Iowa State and later continued to get a degree in Automation/Robotics. Mike has spent the last few years coaching goalies with the Chicago Bruins from ages 4-18, boys and girls, including his own 7 year old son. Mike takes a very personal approach to coaching and doesn’t believe in the “one size fits all” mentality for goalies. Coach Dwyer started coaching at Wheaton West in 2014.

Kyle Nielsen – Assistant Coach

Kyle Nielsen grew up playing hockey for the Grizzlies, Flames, and Bruins. As a student of West Chicago High School, Kyle was a three year Varsity goalie for the Wheaton West Wild and Wildhawks. Kyle went to one state championship with the Wildhawks as well as a final four finish. After high school, Kyle attended DePaul University before transferring to DeVry University to finish up his major in Computer Information Systems. While finishing college, Coach Kyle began coaching at Wheaton West in 2016 as an assistant goalie coach.

Jason DeMaria – Strength and Conditioning Coach

After graduating from Wheaton Warrenville South, Jason (Jay) earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University where he also was a member of the WMU Stallions Hockey Club’s practice squad and the WMU Men’s Volleyball Club. After graduating in 2008, Jason quickly furthered his education by becoming a Nationally Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In April 2014 he added on his USA Olympic Weightlifting Sports Performance Certification through the United States Olympic Weightlifting Committee. He has been a Sports Performance Coach for more than 10 years and has trained athletes of multiple sports from age 9 all the way to the Collegiate and Professional levels. Jason also spent time working alongside the Strength and Conditioning Staffs of clubs in the USHL and the NHL. Jay has been the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Wheaton West since 2015.
